The mission of the Humane Society of Northwest Indiana is to balance the health, safety, and welfare needs of the people and animals within the Northwest Indiana area. The Humane Society seeks to accomplish this through providing shelter and finding homes for unwanted pets, and helping people be responsible pet owners through support and education programs.

My father-in-law went in to the Miller branch to pick up a puppy that they had chosen earlier last week. He was treated very unkindly by the woman working there this afternoon. She was very unprofessional and rude, to put it lightly. Very sad, because he left without the dog, and had a wonderful and loving home to offer. The family is very upset, considering they had been looking forward to the new addition to the family. For an employee to put their own interests in front of the animals is shameful! Very sad situation!

I volunteer with a small dog rescue. He can check our website to see if there is one he likes www.safehavenfurbabies.org.

Thank you, Linda!!! I will definitely get back to you...my mother-in-law is writing a letter. She may want to speak with the director personally. They are looking for a larger dog. It was a German Shepard puppy they were interested in. Im headed out the door, but I will message you soon w the details of what happened.

That is too bad, Jodi. I got my Dutch there about seven years ago, and worked with Betty. It was a great experience. Hopefully your father-in-law's experience was an isolated incident and/or the shelter will do what they need to to deal with the person he worked with. I'm with Linda. Seems it would be worth trying again there. Good luck :)
