Shirley Massey fell in love with art when she started working with simple paint-by-numbers sets in elementary school. She has been hooked ever since.
As she continued to develop her craft, she began selling her work and teaching painting classes. She has worked as a professional artist since the early ‘90s and, for the past two years, Massey has been sharing her passion for the arts during her Decorative Painting lessons offered through Porter County Parks and Recreation.

The National Park Service has seasonal employment opportunities available for the summer of 2012 at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Applications are now being accepted for a variety of positions including Park Guides, Biological Science Technicians, Laborers and Custodial Workers. Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) named Tyler Goodman the regional winner in its 10th Annual Club Tech Digital Arts Festivals competition for his entry in the Photo Tech category. During the past year, Porter County Parks and Recreation has expanded its offerings to kids in the area.
Camp FUNset welcomed hundreds of campers to Sunset Hill Farm County Park last summer and, during winter break, a two-day camp was offered for the first time.
The growth is continuing this winter and spring with a new program called Club FUNset, a monthly get-together for kids ages 6 to 12 that begins in February.
