Artists-in-Residence Unveil Work at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore

Four artists, who worked as Artists-In-Residence this past year at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, will unveil their visual interpretations of the park at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, December 12, at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center. Mark Burkett, Susan Henshaw, Nancie King Mertz, and Jeanne McLeish will each present their artwork to the park and discuss their experience as an Artist-In-Residence at the national lakeshore. Camp FUNset Winter Camp Coming to Sunset Hill Farm County Park

Kids throughout Northwest Indiana will get out of school at the end of this month, eager for the holidays and ready for a break. But after the gifts are opened and the excitement has subsided, kids can get a little bored. Those new toys aren’t so new, and video games and TV can become an unhealthy way to pass the time. Porter County Community Foundation Awards Grant to Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County

Porter County Community Foundation recently awarded $10,000 from the Community Fund to Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County. The funds were used to purchase tables for the snack area and outfit the Computer Lab with computers, monitors and workspace at the Boys & Girls Clubs-Forest “Dusty” Rhode Portage Club. Christmas Bird Count at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore

On December 28, join in at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and be part of the longest running Citizen Science survey in the world: the Audubon's 112th annual Christmas Bird Count. Counts are taking place across the country from December 14, 2011 to January 5, 2012. ParKids Youth Volunteer Corps Offered at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore

Calling all teens living near Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore! Reduce your "screen time" and join the National Park Service in doing some "green time" with the ParKids Youth Volunteer Corps. Youth between the ages of 13 and 18 are invited to apply to this year-round service learning program. Couch to Foot Pursuit at Sunset Hill Offers Help to Beginning Runners

Last March at Sunset Hill Farm County Park, more than 20 people finished a 5K race for the first time in their lives. That is because they had spent the previous several weeks with Porter County Parks and Recreation, taking advantage of a program called Couch to Foot Pursuit.
