The Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County was the recipient of a $5,000 grant from Valparaiso University’s (VU) English 396 Class, entitled "Traditions of Giving and Serving in American Life”. Carolyn Jones fell in love with nature as a child, when she discovered that a groundhog had made a home in her backyard.
She was curious about meeting the creature, so she cut up some carrots and sprinkled them into the groundhog hole and made a trail of them into the grass. Then she waited. Eventually, the groundhog began eating the carrots and came out onto the lawn.
