Boys & Girls Clubs Showcases Fine Art Winners

 The Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County recently held its Fine Arts Contest.  Club members age 5-18 from the Portage, South Haven, Duneland and Valparaiso Clubs completed artwork throughout the year in the various categories for the contest.   10 yr. old Kelly Yaros of the Portage Club stands next to her winning entry entitled “Sail Boat”. New Art Program at Thomas Library: “I Can Do That! Art.”

A new drop-in art program, “I Can Do That! Art,” will begin at Westchester Public Library on Saturday, January 8.  All ages are welcome, but parents are asked to accompany little ones.  The program will take place in the Children’s department at Thomas Library, 200 W. Fees change at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore

In 2011, the National Park Service will implement changes to fees at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. The public had a chance to comment on the proposed fee changes last fall. Starbucks Answers Michiana Humane Society’s Plea

Touched by the Michiana Humane Society’s recent YouTube video for the 2010 Project for Awesome charity contest, the Michigan City Starbucks was moved to partner on an event at the animal shelter Saturday, January 22, 2011 from 11:30 am - 2:30 pm. Chesterton Middle School is collecting for Military Care Packages

The Chesterton Middle School Give Back Project will collect items on behalf of the local group Supporters of Military (SOM) from Monday, January 17 through Friday, January 28.  This group regularly sends care packages to members of the military serving far from home. Origami Club for children starting at Westchester Public Library

Donation to Westchester Public Library by the Thanos Family

The Friends of Westchester Public Library recently received a $1,000 donation from the Thanos family for purchase of audio-visual materials.  The donation was given in memory of John and Mark Thanos, Chesterton father and son, who drowned on Sept. 14, 2008 while attempting to rescue a young boy. On Saturday, January 15, the Chesterton High School chapter of Business Professionals of America competed in the District 1 Leadership Conference held at Lake Central High School. Starbucks Partnership Event Inspires 157 Pet Lovers to Take Action

157 pet lovers, among them 35 volunteers and board members, attended the bustling Starbucks’ partnership event at the Michiana Humane Society (MHS) facility Saturday, January, 22nd.
