Spend the Day after Thanksgiving in Duneland This Year

The Hometown Christmas Celebration begins the Friday after Thanksgiving, November 26th, 2010, starting with charming carriage rides venturing through the Historic downtown from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., leaving from the Chamber of Commerce parking lot at 220 Broadway to get Porter County in the spirit for the Twilight Christmas Parade. Books bought in memory of Dorothy Hageman on display

Memorials in Dorothy Hageman's name were used to buy books about birds, photography, and Native Americans for Hageman Library, Westchester Public Library's Porter branch. The books are on display and are available for check-out at the library, 100 Francis Street, Porter. Dorothy Bowen was born Aug. 19, 1923, in Lafayette, the daughter of Abner H. and Willa Dorothy (Reid) Bowen. Indiana Dunes State Park to close temporarily for deer reductions

Select Indiana State Parks, including Indiana Dunes State Park, will be closed temporarily for two rounds of controlled deer reductions in the coming weeks. The first reduction is Nov. 15-16; the second round is Nov. 29-30. The park will close to the general public the evening before each of the two efforts and re-open the morning after each two-day reduction.
