Once upon a time, Chesterton had its own ocean liner floating in a clear blue bay in the tiny town of Littleville. Ogden Dunes had a 200 foot tall ski jump and Porter had a planetarium. These are just some of the tourist attractions that at one time brought thousands of tourists to the Duneland area, but are now lost to the past. The Indiana Dunes State Park and the Friends of Indiana Dunes, Inc., recently announced the Dunes Conservation Field Trip Grant Program recipients for the 2010/2011 school year. The Chesterton Adult Learning Center will open for the new school year on August 30. The learning center is located at 100 W. Indiana Ave., Chesterton in the Westchester Library Service Center. Both branches of Westchester Public Library, the Library Service Center and the Westchester Township History Museum will be closed Monday, September 6 for Labor Day.
