“Lost Tourist Attractions of the Dunes” at Museum

Once upon a time, Chesterton had its own ocean liner floating in a clear blue bay in the tiny town of Littleville. Ogden Dunes had a 200 foot tall ski jump and Porter had a planetarium. These are just some of the tourist attractions that at one time brought thousands of tourists to the Duneland area, but are now lost to the past. Indiana Dunes State Park Field Trip Grants Awarded

The Indiana Dunes State Park and the Friends of Indiana Dunes, Inc., recently announced the Dunes Conservation Field Trip Grant Program recipients for the 2010/2011 school year. The maximum grant award of $250 each was awarded to teachers Christine Bullock, Jody Nix and Samantha Hayes of Chesterton Middle School, and Diane Bozovich from Westville Elementary School. Chamber Hosts 10-10 Challenge

The Chesterton/Duneland Chamber of Commerce is challenging all Porter County residents to shop local and within the Duneland community. The Chamber 2010 10-10 Challenge is their newest program in which shoppers are to spend $10 or more at 10 different Chamber member establishments, within one month, save the receipts, and turn them in to be placed in a drawing for Chamber gift certificates. Kiwanis K-9 Krazy 9 to Benefit Chesterton's K-9 Unit Effort

The Chesterton Duneland Kiwanis Club is proud to announce that they will be holding a golf outing in which half of their proceeds will be donated to the Chesterton Police Department and their effort to secure a much-needed K-9 Unit. Chesterton Middle School Art on Exhibit

Artwork by six Chesterton Middle School students is on exhibit at the Westchester Township History Museum, 700 W. Tickle Tales Library Program

Westchester Public Library offers different programs for all ages at both Thomas and Hageman libraries. Tickle Tales is a program for very young patrons. Children ages 12 to 24 months and a parent or caregiver can enjoy this program. First-time parents are especially encouraged to attend. The fall season of Tickle Tales begins the week of September 7. Chesterton Adult Learning Center to Open August 30

The Chesterton Adult Learning Center will open for the new school year on August 30. The learning center is located at 100 W. Indiana Ave., Chesterton in the Westchester Library Service Center. The re-opening has been made possible through an agreement between Westchester Public Library and the Center of Workforce Innovations. Adult Summer Reading Program

Adults 18 years of age and older are invited to “Breeze Through Summer”, Westchester Public Library’s summer reading program for adults. Library, Library Service Center and Museum to Close for Labor Day

Both branches of Westchester Public Library, the Library Service Center and the Westchester Township History Museum will be closed Monday, September 6 for Labor Day. Library buildings will reopen Tuesday, September 7 and resume regular hours. The office of the Westchester Township Trustee will also be closed on September 6. Thomas Library, located at 200 W.
