Support Needed for Jered Peters Benefit

July 28, 2010

Jered PetersTesticular cancer is the most common form of cancer in men between the ages of 15 and 35. Testicular cancer is one of the most treatable and curable cancers. The survival rate for men with early-stage seminoma (the least aggressive type of testicular cancer) is greater than 95%. The disease-free survival rate for Stage II and III cancers is slightly lower, depending on the size of the tumor and when treatment is begun. Even though the prognosis is excellent, testicular cancer "victims" are left with hefty medical expenses.

Two months ago, a local business owner was diagnosed with testicular cancer. This "victim's" name is Jered Peters, owner of Aberrant Tattoo in Portage, Indiana. He is only 29 years old. Recently, he had surgery to remove both testicles, and will have another surgery to remove a cancer spot that has spread to his abdomen. It has also spread to his lung and lymph nodes, which may be taken care of with chemotherapy. As most self-employed individuals, Jered does not have health insurance. It's not surprising to learn that most small business employees and their families either do not have any health insurance  at all or inadequate coverage. The problem is even larger for those persons that are self-employed individuals with no employees. Due to the high amount of medical expenses he is and will be facing in the near future as he begins chemotherapy and has another surgery, many friends of Jered are organizing a benefit to help with these medical expenses.

We are asking the community to help with this benefit in any way they can, and hope to gain your support. The benefit will be on August 13, 2010 from 5 p.m. to midnight at the American Legion Post 100 in Lake Station. Support we are looking for consists of: food/beverage donations, gift certificates, monetary donations, and anything else that may help in having a successful event.

If you are willing to help, please contact Alicia Higgins at al1704@yahoo.com. Every and any donation is greatly appreciated.
