TweetChildren ages 3 through grade 5 are invited to hop aboard for “Adventures on the High Seas,” Westchester Public Library’s summer reading program for children. The program, which begins June 7 and ends July 15, will take place at Thomas Library, located at 200 W. Indiana Ave., and Hageman Library, located at 100 Francis St., Porter. Participants may register at either Thomas or Hageman Library beginning the week of June 1.
When each child registers, he or she will receive a Ships Log to record the books that are read. Each week, when participants bring in their reading records to be stamped, a different craft will be available at the children’s desk. Children may also pick up the weekly clue to find the pirate flag which has been hidden somewhere around the area.
During the reading program, there will be weekly activities offered for enjoyment. Storytime for children ages 3-6 will be available on Tuesdays at Thomas Library at 1:30 p.m. and on Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m. at Hageman Library beginning the week of June 8. Themes are “Pirates” on June 8 and 9; “Jungle” on June 15 and 16; “Under the Sea” on June 22 and 23; “Water Fun: on June 29 and 30; “Backyard Fun” on July 6 and 7; and “At the Beach” on July 13 and 14.
