Chesterton Driver’s Education Enters a New Era

Beginning this summer, Chesterton High School will offer another option with their driver’s education classes: online coursework.

Traditionally, the summer driver’s education program at Chesterton has consisted of a fourteen day classroom portion and eight day behind-the-wheel experience. Students have attended class and driven on the same days. This option will still be offered at Chesterton and is referred to as the Traditional Program.

New this summer will be the option to forgo the traditional classroom format and instead participate in lessons online. Students will be able to access the online learning portion from anywhere they can get internet access. Students are required to complete sixteen lessons at their own pace, but only one lesson can be completed per day. Students participating in this program will also be required to enroll in the eight-day behind-the-wheel experience held at Chesterton High School. Referred to as the Online Program, Chesterton is able to offer this option through a free partnership with the Central Indiana Education Service Center and driversed.com.

The Traditional Program will cost $375 for Duneland students and $425 for out-of-district students. The online program will have a total cost of $424 for Duneland students and $474 for out-of-district students. For the online program, families will need to pay $325 to Chesterton High School and then $99 to driversed.com once they have registered online.

Driver’s education will be offered from June 8th through July 29th. Students interested in participating may pick up registration forms at the Assistant Principals’ Office at Chesterton High School or visit www.duneland.k12.in.us/news/summerschool.html. Deadline for registration is April 30th.
