Chesterton/Duneland Chamber Announces Facelift Fund

The Façade Committee of the Chesterton/Duneland Chamber of Commerce, through funding from the Duneland Economic Development Company, is pleased to announce the availability of $20,000 in façade improvement grants for commercial businesses in the Duneland area.  The dollars will be awarded for new projects in the main corridors of the Duneland Community.  

In Chesterton, the corridors are Broadway, Calumet Avenue and Indian Boundary; In Porter, the corridors are Lincoln, Waverly, and Wagner roads; In Burns Harbor, the corridors are Highway 20, Highway 12 and Highway 149; In Beverly Shores and Dune Acres, the corridor is Highway 12.  The DEDC, through the recommendation of the Façade Committee, will award one $5,000, three $2,000 and nine $1,000 grants to local area businesses.  The dollars can go to support a larger project like re-bricking a building front to a project as simple as flower boxes in the front window.  Each grant will require a 20% match from the building owner and grant funds are reimbursed not prepaid. 

It is the DEDC’s philosophy that funding such projects will draw and increase the number of visitors to the downtowns of our communities. The DEDC and the Chesterton/Duneland Chamber are pleased to participate in expanding the quality of life in our communities through this Facelift Fund Grant Program.

Grant applications are available at the Chesterton/Duneland Chamber of Commerce, 220 Broadway, Chesterton or on their website www.chestertonchamber.org.  The deadline to apply is May 20, 2010 and projects need to be completed by November 1, 2010.  This is a great opportunity to improve our charming community at a time when we have the most visitors.  Please contact Heather Ennis with any questions 219.926.5513.
