Each year, Visual Communications students create the design for the Chesterton High School Handbook. It is an excellent opportunity for students to learn about successful graphic design, the commercial printing process and communicate to others the essence of our educational community through art.
The selection of this year's design was a process that included the entire school community. The design class created a rubric for judging what they thought worked best. Then faculty and staff selected what they liked. Finally the student body voted for their favorite with a "penny vote" raising several hundred dollars for a charity. Each round concluded that Senior Jannon Jeffries design was the choice for the 2009-10 handbook.
Jeffries will continue her studies at Purdue University pursuing her love for creative writing, photography and making art. She is a member of the Independent Study Senior Portfolio Class which runs concurrently with the Visual Arts International Baccalaureate class. Her design uses one of her photographs of our Lake Michigan dunescape.
School Datebooks conducts an annual cover contest starting with 64 covers from around the country. Each week at 11:00 a.m., the round is reduced by half. This is the fifth round and the last. CHS is competing with a parochial high school from Wisconsin. Whichever school wins this round will be awarded $1000! A special recognition will go to Jeffries.
Please check out the website at www.schooldatebooks.com. Please help the school and Jeffries by voting for the CHS handbook cover design.
