Hundreds lined the streets of historic downtown Chesterton this past Friday to witness the Twilight Christmas Parade - a kickoff event for the Duneland community’s Hometown Holiday Celebration. On Friday November 15th, National Park Service rangers located a Buchanan, Michigan man hunting in a tree stand approximately 75 yards inside the park boundary near Mount Baldy. Rangers had discovered the illegal tree stand and bait site several weeks prior and had been watching the area for any activity. Taltree Arboretum & Gardens will be hosting holiday fun every weekend between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Vote for Bailly Elementary! Bailly Elementary school has been named as one of three finalists in the Winners Drink Milk World School Milk Day competition. A total of 421 students at Bailly Elementary participated in a school-mandated black and white day as they colored milk cartons to decorate the hallways, and the third and fourth grade classes made posters showing how milk is pronounced in different languages and the importance of milk around the world. Newly minted historic calendars for 2014 are on sale now at the Westchester Township History Museum, 700 W. Porter Avenue, Chesterton. The calendars are available for $10 each and will make excellent gifts. There are 13 historic images of the Duneland area. Each month includes notable events from the area’s history up to about 1976 and many photographs that have never been published before.
