Proposals Sought for Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Chellberg Farm

The National Park Service is looking to reestablish a working agricultural landscape at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore’s Chellberg Farm. Proposals are invited from the private sector to lease the historic farm, on a long-term basis, to conduct sustainable agriculture enterprises. The annual event began when Chuck Roth, owner of Chesterton Feed & Garden Center, brought in one of his pet turkeys for the customers to enjoy. Duneland’s Hometown Holiday Celebration will take place the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Restoration Efforts Underway at Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve

Indiana Dunes State Park Receives Tree Planting Grant for Campground

The camping experience at Indiana Dunes State Park will improve thanks to a Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) grant that will pay to reforest the campground with about 80 new trees. In recent years, a large die-off of trees has occurred in the campground as trees of roughly the same age simultaneously reached their life expectancy.  The new trees will vary in age and species. Downtown businesses will be offering trick or treating for Duneland families this year on Friday, October 24, from 4-6pm. Parents and their children should look for purple flyers in the windows of participating businesses along Indian Boundary, Calumet and Broadway in Chesterton.
