Chesterton’s five Town Council Members are elected to four year terms. Though one member is elected for each district in Chesterton, members are elected at-large by the whole town. The Town Council is both the Legislative and Executive body of Chesterton’s Town Government.
At the first regular calendar meeting of the year, the Town Council elects one member to serve as Town Council President and one member to serve as Town Council Vice President. These members hold that office until the beginning of the next year when elections are held again. The Town Council President for 2010 is Member Jeff Trout and the Vice-president is Member Sharon Darnell.
The Town Council meets on the second and fourth Mondays of each month, (except for the fourth Monday in December) at 7:00 p.m. at the Town Hall (726 Broadway).
