The Town Council appoints three members to the Board of Police Commissioners for a three year term. No more than two Police Commissioners may be of the same political party.
The Police Commission makes Police Department compensation recommendations to the Town Council and also has the authority to hire and dismiss employees from the Police Department. The Police Commission also appoints a Chief of the Police force.
The Police Commission meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:00 pm at the Chesterton Town Hall.
