My Pekin and Rouen duck , one of them laid an egg.

Question?
I got a Pekin and Rouen duck from a roadside guy at Easter. I know...impulse buy for my 7-yr old! This morning, one of them laid an egg. OOPS! I don't want to end up with bunches of offspring and the ducks are so closely bonded that I don't want to separate them. Is there a way I can keep them from "doing what comes naturally"?? My son loves them so much, it would kill him to have to send them away.

Answer:

Just remove the eggs as they lay them and yes, oddly enough, they are an egg and you can eat them. If you cannot bring yourself to eat them, they are great for baking. If all this fails, I’m sure someone you know would enjoy them. Usually they only lay in certain seasons and not all year, so this may just be a seasonal thing. Good luck, Chuck
