“Every 70 seconds another person is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease,” said Louise Thompson, community services liaison for Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Indiana, Northwest Indiana Office. “While the disease is devastating for the individual, it can be, and often is, more devastating for the caregiver.”
The Informational Group offers participants a safe and friendly environment to share personal concerns, get answers to their questions, learn ideas that have helped others in the same situations and understand the affects of the disease.
The Alzheimer’s Association is dedicated to research of the disease and finding a cure, providing programs that help the caregivers and their loved one, and offering educational topics to help the community understand the disease.
“Participating at the Informational Group is a good way to gain confidence as a caregiver, understand the emotions you experience are normal and know that you are not alone in the journey,” said Cathy Berk, group facilitator.
