TweetWestchester Public Library’s Family Film series takes place on the second Saturday of the month at Hageman Library, 100 Francis St., Porter, at 2 p.m. from September through May. The film on May 8 is The Great Mouse Detective. Films shown by the library are free of charge and open to the public.
Young Olivia’s birthday is ruined when her master toymaker father, Flaversham, is kidnapped. Olivia encounters Dr. David Q Dawson in her search for Basil of Baker Street, the greatest detective in London mousedom in 1897.
Basil is galvanized into action when Olivia tells him her father’s kidnapper was a peg-legged bat – employed by Basil’s arch-nemesis, Professor Ratigan.
Ratigan forces Flaversham to create a mechanical queen, with plans to take over the Empire. Basil and Dawson are able to stop him, but Ratigan escapes bringing Olivia with him. The chase is on!
Basil rescues Olivia, who is reunited with her father, the Empire is saved, and a new partnership between Basil and Dr. Dawson is formed.
The Great Mouse Detective is rated G and has a running time of 74 minutes.
Family Films at Hageman will continue in September. Westchester Public Library’s Summer Concert and Family Film series at Thomas Centennial Park will begin June 11 at 7 p.m. with the Valparaiso University/Community Band, followed by the movie Free Willy: Escape from Pirates’ Cove.
