TweetThe Westchester Township History Museum is pleased to announce another installment in its Meet the Author series. Local author Rosemary Gard will present her book Destiny’s Dowry. The program will take place at the museum, 700 W. Porter Avenue, Chesterton, on Sunday, March 21 at 2 p.m.
Destiny’s Dowry, based in part on the author’s family history, is the first in a planned trilogy. The story encompasses the life of Katya, who as a newborn was taken to a place she did not belong. She grew up thinking the people who raised her were her true family.
Danger follows her when at the age of 15 she escapes from a Turk who purchased Kayla from her brother-in-law.
Rosemary Gard spent three months in Croatia in a village where she observed the customs and living habits of her relatives. She wrote the book to honor her ancestors who emigrated from Croatia to the United States.
As well as being an author, Gard creates jewelry. Her pieces have been sold in boutiques, dress shops and museum gift shops from Martha’s Vineyard to Davenport, Iowa and were recently seen at the Brauer Museum Gift Shop at Valparaiso University. Her necklaces are assemblages made up of antique components combined with semi-precious stones or vintage beads.
Copies of Destiny’s Dowry will be available for sale. Gard will bring the dress that is pictured on the cover of her book, as well as bookmarks for attendees. Refreshments will be served.
The Westchester Township History Musuem is an educational service of Westchester Public Library and is open to the public free of charge Wednesday-Sunday from 1-5 p.m. or by appointment. For more information please call the museum at 983-9715.
