TweetThe Westchester Public Library's free concert and family film series continues Friday, June 25 at 7 p.m. with Patti Shaffner and Scott Pazera at Thomas Centennial Park. The concert will be followed by the film Where the Wild Things Are at dusk, about 8 p.m. Those who attend are invited to bring lawn chairs and picnics, blankets and bug spray. In the event of rain, both events will be offered in the Library Service Center on the corner of Indiana Avenue and Calumet. Popcorn and soda will be sold in time for the movie by members of the Rotary.
Patti Shaffner and Scott Pazera create a seamless Trio (yes Trio) with Patti's vocals and Scott's 7 string bass and looper. Having worked together for nearly 10 years they have come to know each other's musical intentions very well which results in a tight jazz performance that includes jazz standards and original tunes as well as some contemporary stylings.
Maurice Sendak’s beloved children’s classic Where the Wild Things Are has been brought to life on the big screen. Rambunctious and willful Max feels misunderstood at home so, while wearing his wolf costume, he escapes to where the Wild Things are. When Max lands on an island an ocean away, he meets strange and mysterious creatures whose emotions are as wild and unpredictable as their actions.
Max longs for a kingdom to rule, and the wild things long for a leader to guide them. Max is crowned king and promises to create a place where everyone is happy. Max soon learns, however, that ruling a kingdom is not as easy as he thought.
Where the Wild Things Are is rated PG and has a running time of 101 minutes. On Friday, July 2, enjoy brass band music with members of the South Shore Brass Band, followed by the film Imagine That.
Program fliers will be handed out at the concert and are available at Thomas Library, 200 W. Indiana Ave., Chesterton, Hageman Library, 100 Francis St., Porter and the Westchester
