Summer Concert and Family Film Series

Westchester Public Library’s free concert and family film series will continue on Friday, June 18 at the Bandstand in Thomas Park with the band, For Amusement Only, performing an eclectic mix of popular music. The concert will be followed by the film, “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” at dusk, about 8 p.m. Those who attend are invited to bring lawn chairs and picnics, blankets and bug spray. In the event of rain, both events will be offered in the Library Service Center on the corner of Indiana Avenue and Calumet. Popcorn and soda will be sold in time for the movie by members of the Rotary.

For Amusement Only offers a fun and danceable mix of oldies, country, pop and rock. The members of the band are Tessy Bowers on vocals and guitar, Bill McCarel on vocals, guitar and keyboard, Meg McCarel on vocals, Jim Murray on drums and Tim Winey on bass.

In “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” Inventor Flint Lockwood (voice of Bill Hader) and brainy weathergirl Sam Sparks (voice of Anna Faris) attempt to discover why the rain in their small town has stopped while food is falling in its place. Meanwhile, lifelong bully Brent (voice of Adam Samberg) relishes tormenting Flint just as he did when they were kids. Mayor Shelbourne (voice of Bruce Campbell) schemes to use Flint’s latest invention – a device designed to improve everyone’s life – for his own personal gain. Mr. T voices the by-the-books cop Earl Devereaux and James Caan Flint’s technophobe father, Tim.

“Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” is rated PG. Running time is 90 minutes.

This series of concerts and films is funded through generous donations from the Chesterton-Porter Rotary. A list of concerts and films will be handed out at the park and is available at both Thomas and Hageman Library and at the Westchester Township History Museum.
