Hear Audio Samples at my web site!
If you'd like to hear Real Audio samples of ten species sound prints from
the Stokes Field Guide to Bird Songs, visit my web site at
http://www.naturesound.com and follow the links for the Stokes Guide.
These samples are provided in the Real Audio http pseudo streaming
format for 28.8 modems or faster. If you do not have a Real Audio
player installed, you can get one at http://www.realaudio.com. My
web site also offers a link to full documentation of dates and locations of
the nearly 2000 recordings used to create the guide.

I recommend purchasing the compact disc version
My new guide to bird songs covers over 370 species and comes in
cassette and compact disc versions, both retailed at the same price. I
strongly recommend the purchase of the compact disc version (ISBN
1-57042-483-7) because it allows for rapid access of each species
through CD track numbers. Also, the audio quality of compact disc is
superior to cassette. The best compact disc player for my guide is one
that has a keyboard that allows for rapid entry of track numbers from 1
through 99. For high track numbers, such as 99, many players have an
"over ten" key that requires the user to press that key nine times to get to
90, followed by pressing the 9 key to finally access track 99 (for a total
of ten finger strikes). A smaller number of players allow for direct entry of
99 in only two strikes. Obviously, this kind of player would be optimal
for my discs. It follows that the worst possible player is one that requires
99 sequential strikes to access track 99! --This text refers to the audio
                     cassette edition of this title

A real "TWEET" for any BIRDWATCHER!!!!!
This is a reference to real "CROW" about for learning and listening to the
Bird Songs of the Eastern U.S. Each CD track has 1-2 different bird's
calls and songs making them easy to find. The accompanying guide also
helps with written descriptions of what to listen for. It also references the
page numbers in the Stokes' Field Guide to help describe each bird, its
range and habits. It has been a "HOOT" to listen to for over 3 hours (on
3 CDs) and has kept me humming like a bird. I have already been able to
identify some birds through their songs because of it. What a true
"tweet"!!! Its a fantastic value at a "cheep" price that will drive you
"cuckoo" if you let it "swift"-ly fly by. Thank You for a "RAVEN"
success, Lang Elliott along with Donald and Lillian Stokes.

Notable for its numerous identification keys including a quick, full-color
visual guide to the most common backyard birds, a quick alphabetical
index on the inside covers (as well as a complete one within) and a color
tab index to bird groups. Superb color photographs include relevant
plumage variations. Annotation copyright Book News, Inc. Portland, Or.
