Surge Power for Washington DC

Posted on April 21, 2003

Question:
Chuck --
I live in Northern Virginia, near DC. I have violets, and I'd like to get rid of them. You mentioned "Surge Power" in one of your Ask Chuck responses, do you think that you might elaborate on the product? I'd like to find it out here if possible, but let me know either way.
Peter

Answer:
This product is made by Monterey company based in California. It is better than the Trimec type weed killers although not as broad spectrum. Its real value is working on the tougher weeds that trimec has a hard time killing such as ground ivy, spurge, violets, clover, etc. It is available in pints and quarts and is not much more expensive than other weed killers. A friend of mine used to live in Maryland and worked in DC and when I visited we went to a very nice garden center (which may have been across the border in Maryland but not that far). The name escapes me but it started with a "B" and it is a member of the Growise Gro-Group. Growise does have a website for a dealer locator. If this garden center does not carry this exact product, explain what it is and they may have it in another label and manufacturer. The other alternative is a product called Speedzone but the smallest size it comes in is a gallon concentrate.
Good Luck, Chuck.
