Question:
Chuck I have several rose bushes in my yard, all have dropped their leaves and have no bloomed again. I heard that spraying with a hydrogen peroxide solution would kill what I thought to be balckspot/fungi. Do you have anything else to offer?
Answer:
Roses are very susceptable to fungus disease. When growing roses, its best to prevent the disease than to try to cure it. We like to use Fungonil and/or funginex for fungus control. It is good to rotate between two fungicides as some fungus can become resistant to them. You should start spraying now and keep all infected leaves picked off or raked up. You can also trim back the plants by about 1/4th to encourage new growth. Next year, start spraying as soon as the new growth on the roses is 2 inches long, and spray every 7-10 days all through the season to prevent the situation from ever occurring. Happy gardening, Chuck
