Question:
I have installed a preformed pond 2 X 3 feet approximately 80 gallons in my bay window of our living room. Over the last 2 - 3 months red segmented worms have begun to infest the waters. They are approximately 1/4 to 1/3 of an inch long and the width of a pencil line. They can be seen floating in the water and can plug the nossle of an inexpensive fountain in 2 to 3 days. Cleaning the nossle will produce 20 - 30 bodies. Can you tell me what they are, and how to get rid of them. I have no fish or live plants in the pond as it is much easier to clean the fish tank than a pond.
Thanks in advance,

Answer:
I have had the same in my ponds (mostly outdoors) and have been told not to worry. I have never had the problems with them that you are having cause I use filters on my ponds and so they get caught in there before entering any accessories. You might try a simple pre-filter or you might find an inexpensive biological filter would keep the pond cleaner and clearer overall. My favorite is the Cyprio bioforce filters cause they can be put outside or inside the pond depending on your situation. Good Luck, Chuck.
