Question:
Hi Chuck,
I have a molded, 85 gallon outdoor pond and I was wondering how to winterize it. I don't have any fish or plants in it. My neighbor suggested that I put in this anti-freeze that he uses for his camper that he puts in his water pipes and resovier for the winter. I know I shouldn't drain the pond completely, but would this help it, from keeping the water from freezing and maybe the pond weakening it from the cold?
Thank you, Debbie
Answer:
Winterizing an eighty-five gallon pond High quality garden ponds such as we sell are garanteed for 15 years and stand up very well to freezing in the winter. Some people talk about emptying them but you stand the chance of your hole changing shape through the heaving of the ground and the freezing and thawing. Best to let it freeze solid. Especially since you have no fish or plants to worry about. Happy Ponding, Chuck.
