Mushrooms through asphalt

Posted on October 22, 2002

Question:
Dear Chuck, I have a major problem with big mushrooms growing under my newly paved driveway. They are actually pushing up through the asphalt (4"-6" dia.) bubbles. What can I do. It started last year with 4 nows there 25.

Answer:
I am amazed that they are growing through asphalt. The only spray I know that will kill mushrooms is Consan 20. However, it does not kill the web network that makes up its root so more can keep coming. A combination of this and sweetening the soil with lime may help. Sometimes they are caused by construction debris buried in the area but since the asphalt is already down it would be hard to remove the debris. Good Luck, Chuck.
