Mushrooms in crawl space

Posted on May 5, 2003

Question:
Chuck,
We are purchasing a house that they applied moisture barrier in the crawl space as per the inspectors recommendations. Now, a couple of weeks later, there are mushrooms growing under the house. We are looking at ventilating with a fan to reduce the moisture in the area but is there any other way to get rid of them? Thanks for your help.

Answer:
A dehumidifier would be a good idea. The fan is a good start but may not change the conditions enough to prevent growth. A fungicide called consan 20 is listed for mushrooms and may be used on indoor areas also. Good luck, Chuck.
