MUSHROOMS ARE GROWING IN OUR BACK YARD

Posted on October 2, 2006

Question:
MUSHROOMS ARE GROWING IN OUR BACK YARD. WE HAVE TWO LABS AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THESE WHITE MUSHROOMS ARE POISON? IF MY DOGS ATE ONE OF THESE MUSHROOMS, WOULD IT KILL THEM? THESE ARE WHITE MUSHROOMS AND THIS IS THE FIRST YEAR THEY HAVE STARTING COMING IN OUR YARD. I KEEP PULLING THEM UP BUT THEY JUST KEEP COMING BACK. COULD YOU PLEASE LET ME KNOW?
I WAS SEARCHING THE INTERNET AND FOUND YOU. I APPRECIATE YOUR WEBSITE. I AM PUTTING IT IN MY FAVORITES AND CHECK PERIODICALLY FOR ANSWERS.

Answer:
There are many mushrooms and I am not an expert on which are poisonous and which are not. Yes there would be concern for your dogs if the variety you have is poisonous. The fungicide Consan will kill the sprouted mushroom but not the root so more can still come up. The only way to get rid of them permanently is to dig down and remove what is causing them to be there in the first place. Usually this is not a practical alternative. Sorry there is not a better solution. Good luck, Chuck
