Question:
I have rain drainage tubing, the corrugated kind, and wondering if the small amount of water that collects in each ring of the tubing is enough to allow mosquitos to lay eggs -- trying to nail down just exactly where they are coming from! If that is sufficient water for them to lay eggs, short of replacing all the tubing with pvc, what can you recommend? perhaps a hinged lid on the end of the drainage tubing?
Answer:
Mosquitoes Breeding in Corrugated Tubing: Unfortunately that is a fine place for breeding mosquitoes. Two suggestions.. try getting more of an angle on the tubing so it minimizes the water held in the cracks and evaporation will help clear the rest. Or, slit the bottom side of the tubing with a knife or drill a hole with a small drill. Only every other corrugation (the ones that hold the water) need be cut as the others will keep the strength of the tubing in tact. The hole should be small enough not to lose the integrity of the tubing during a rain but to serve as a drain afterward for the mosquito gathering areas. Good Luck, Chuck.
