Question:
What's up Chuck!!
I am drying out some bamboo and was curious what I should treat it with to keep insects and termites out and to keep the wood as long as possible? I have been told about Dursdan and Malacide (I guess that's how you spell them?). Are these good choices, or should I go with something else? I am making some furniture out of the bamboo and don't want to use something that will stain my stuff with a horrible smell, or any smell for that matter. In short, what would you suggest? Thx, Spank
Answer:
To my knowledge bamboo is very insect and weather resistant. I do not think you need to treat it with anything. Dursban is no longer available since 12/31/2001. It has been taken off the market. Malacide (or Malathion) is still available but I would not recommend either for your purpose. I think it will do just fine in its natural state for you. Good Luck, Chuck.
