Is there a chemical I can use that will kill the wildflower bulb?

Posted on May 9, 2006

Question:
Every spring, my lawn and beds are full of tiny tiny wildflower "spikes," I guess you'd call them. They usually die by June, but make everything look messy and weed choked until then.
I have been trying to remove them by digging down and pulling them out by the bulb, but this is pretty work intensive and I only successfully get about 1/3 of the bulbs.
Is there a chemical I can use that will kill the bulb so that they don't come back next year?

Answer:
Sounds like you have "star of Bethlehem", a bulb that has a pretty inconspicuous flower and is a real nuisance. A 24D weed killer works well in the lawn but cannot be used in the flower beds as it will kill your flowers also. Digging deep in the garden is best.
