Indoor pond algea problems

Posted on September 9, 2002

Question:
We have just installed an indoor water garden, 40 gallons, and we purchased a Marathon 350 pump from your store. The pond looks fantastic, the fish are absolutely thrilled, we have the fogger and the lights, everything. It looks so good, I don't want to even think of what it would look like should algae take it over. I have put in the microbe lift (?), and the pond clarifier. Is there anything else I should be doing? This seems to be going too well and easy. Do I include real plants for indoor ponds? My husband and I talked to you about doing this on customer appreciation day, but fell short of time to ask these specifics. We only go by what "Chuck says".My main concern is that there sufficient filtration with just that pump. We are pond "rookies". If there is anything els! e we need, I would like to know to iliminate problems before they begin. Let me know if I need to make another trip to Chesterton soon. (we're already there once a week it seems). Thanks, Julie and Tim

Answer:
You are in luck. As long as your pond is not getting direct light the algea should stay away. Inside there is not a whole lot of algea problems. Keep up with the microbe lift and that should take care of it. Clarifier is not needed anymore unless you have a white or brown milky cast to the water. Good Luck, Chuck.
