I have yellowish green larvea with black spots eating the needles of my pine trees

Posted on December 29, 2001

Question:
I have yellowish green larvea with black spots eating the needles of my pine trees what are they and will it harm my trees?

Answer:
Without knowing what kind of pine tree you have it is a little difficult to guess what the larvea is. Some larvae are very specific in the trees they attack which helps in the identification of them. My best guess would be Pine Sawfly larvea which can be very destructive on the tips of the branches. The best control is orthene spray when you see them present.
