Question:
Hi Chuck,
I found a white cocoon in my back yard in Arlington, Texas. I was watering the grass and saw something white on the ground and it was moving. It looked as though something had broken the small branch it was hanging from so I made a tripod and hung it there and placed it in the shade on my back porch with some water in the box. Is the moving a sign that it's ready to come out? Should I do anything else? If it hatches, I guess that's the right word, what should I do? What will it eat? Is it a butterfly or Moth? The cocoon in solid white and about the size of a ping-pong ball or maybe a bit bigger. Any answers would be so appreciated, I just don't want to hurt the poor thing or do anything to harm it. I want to give it a fighting chance to make it!
Thanks,
Charla
Answer:
Sorry I am not familiar with "out of state" cocoons! Probably you will recognize it once it hatches. Good luck, Chuck
