I am trying to grow some Dutchmans Breeches

Posted on June 14, 2006

Question:
Chuck,
I am trying to grow some Dutchman's Breeches. I planted last year and they disappeared on me but came up this year only to be dying out again. Do they go dormant early like the Trout Lily or am I doing something wrong and killing them? I also bought some Indian Pink through the mail and it looks like it is dying too. Could you be so kind as to e-mail me back and maybe let me know what I am doing wrong?
Thanks

Answer:
Dutchmans breeches go dormant like many of the ephemerals in the woodland setting. Indian pink I am not familiar with. Are you aware of the Friends of Indiana Dunes Native Plant Sale every year the first weekend in April?
