Grass Growing in Mulch

Posted on April 21, 2003

Question:
Hi Chuck,
Last summer my husband and I bought some schrubs and planted them along the front of our newly built house and covered them with nice crushed white granite. We then proceeded to to fertilize and seed all of our new loom. The seed spreader overshot the seed into our nice white rocks and now we have grass growing up through the rock and it looks rediculous around the new bushes. Is there anything we can put onto the grass in the rocks that will kill it but not harm our new schrubs?

Thank you

Answer:
Hi-Yield Kilzall is the answer to your dilemma. This will kill whatever it hits, root & all, but once it hits soil it is inactivated so it does not leach into other plants. There is a applicator wand that we carry for really tight application so you dont use a sprayer and get overspray on your desirable plants. This product can be used on conjunction with Preen weed preventer for protection against any weed seed that can blow in in future years. Remember to read and follow all label directions carefully. Good Luck, Chuck
