Do I need to dig up all the roots of my rose bushes?

Posted on October 17, 2006

Question:
I'm a first time gardener and I am trying to get rid of some rose bushes. There are at least 3 bushes. I am in the process of digging the bush out but I am having a difficult time getting all of the roots. Do I need to dig up the roots or, as you've suggested, use HiYield Kilzall or Enforcer Brush Killer? If I just leave the roots will they grow again? I'm replacing the rose bushes with a dog wood tree

Leanne

Answer:
In most cases with roses if the majority of the root is taken out the rest will not sprout. However, if they do sprout up, you could apply those products at that time and as long as it doesn't get on the tree it will be fine. Good Luck, Chuck
