Critters eating my roses

Question:
Is there something that I can use to kill these pesky critters from eating my roses before they bloom? I am against chemicals and wonder if there is something I can use (ie within the home - lemons/vinegar/etc.) as an alternative to the harmful and expensive sprays found at the plant warehouses?
