Codling moths on apples

Posted on April 16, 2003

Question:
I didn't spray in the fall or winter. My apple tree is now in full bloom. What can I do now to eliminate the coddling moth infestation I will be sure to have. What and how often. Would like to have one years crop without worms.

Answer:
Fertilome Fruit Tree spray will take care of your problem. However, to be successful you need to get on a spray program and stick to it. Start when leaf buds just start to open and spray every 10 - 14 days till bloom. During bloom, no spraying so as not to kill the pollinators. After petal drop resume spraying till your pre-harvest date listed on the label. In fall and early spring it is helpful to apply dormant oil and lime-sulfer spray. It is past the time for these applications now as they are done only in the dormant season. Good Luck, Chuck.
