Bats!!

Posted on October 22, 2002

Question:
I recently replace the louver on the end of my house. While doing so one bat flew out. I'm not sure if he was in the attic or just hung in the louver, because the louver does have a screen behind it. I inspected the attic the best I could but did not see any more. Could I just have had one bat, or is there possibly more? Should I be concerned? And what do you do in such a case?

Answer:
This was probably a solitary bat either on a migration route or thinking he might over-winter in your attic. My guess is after you disturbed him he was on his way. Good Luck, Chuck.
