Watch the Great Blue Herons return to their "rookery" in mid-March when they repair their nests. The herons are visible until early May when the new leaves on trees block the view. Throughout the rest of the summer and fall they can be seen feeding in the shallow waters throughout the Dunes Region. The Heron Rookery is a fantastic place for bird watching during the fall and spring migrations. While at the Rookery you can also enjoy the beautiful spring wild flowers and fish in the Little Calumet River.
