Learn about the fascinating history of Beverly Shores at the Depot Museum, where changing exhibits show the town's development and ground-breaking architecture, past and present. View historic maps and see how Frederick H. Bartlett and Robert Bartlett promoted their planned community to lure lot buyers. You'll learn how futuristic houses displayed at the 1933 Chicago World's Fair - A Century of Progress were relocated on the lakefront in Beverly Shores where they remain today.
Depot Art Gallery
The natural beauty and tranquility of the lake and the Dunes seem to attract and nourish artistic talent. Visit the gallery at the historic Beverly Shores Depot to see changing exhibits, featuring work of local artists, April through November.
The intimate gallery embraces a broad range of art from paintings and drawings in various media to sculpture, ceramics, woodcarving and fiber art in a variety of styles — abstract, impressionistic, realistic. A committee of professional artists selects the artists featured in each show. Nearly all featured art is for sale. Housed in the former stationmaster's residence of the Beverly Shores Depot, the gallery offers a bright historic space that is perfect for viewing art.
Depot Gift Shop
Souvenirs of your Beverly Shores visit are available in the gift shop where you will find art, postcards, posters and an assortment of books on the history and ecology of the Indiana Dunes area. For more in-depth information, you will want an interpretive video and the 2008 updated publication Glacier's Treasure Trove, Field Guide to the Lake Michigan Riviera by Jacqueline Widmar Stewart (former Beverly Shores resident), which traces the town's history and illustrates the story with photographs of the architectural and natural setting.
